My work is on Phonetics, Phonology and Sociolinguistics of French, with special emphasis on phonological variation and sound change in Parisian French.
My most recent research projects deal with variable aspects of vowel harmony in the Northern and Southern dialects of France, the prosodic and social aspects of liaison sans enchaînement, and the intonation of working-class adolescents of immigrant descent in La Courneuve, a Northeastern suburb of Paris. Although I am concentrating on prosodic phenomena, I also published about the mechanisms of lexical innovation in adolescent peer groups, and pursue my interests in the early modern mechanical modeling of speech production.
My closest collaborators at UIUC are Professors Jennifer Cole, Jose Hualde, and Chilin Shih at the Linguistics departments at the University of Illinois, as well as Noël Nguyen (Université de Provence) and Cécile Fougeron (ILPGA Paris III) at the CNRS in France.I spend my free time with my husband and two children. I like running, dancing and playing the violin.
