Exchange Programs

Since 1968 the Department of French has been able to send several graduate students to France each year to serve as lecteurs d'anglais (university level) and assistants d'anglais (lycée). Assistants receive a salary from the French government. In turn, French and Francophone graduate students serve as assistants in the Department at Illinois each year. In France the Department has exchange agreements with the Université de Metz, the Université de Poitiers, and (not sure of the desired correction) the Ecole normale supérieure of Lyon. In addition, the Department has exchange programs with Liège and Québec.

The Department of French oversees a number of exchange positions in francophone countries. Two positions are available to students at any time during their graduate studies; three others are reserved for doctoral students.
