General Information

The monthly cinéclub showings are sponsored by the Department of French and the Graduate Students of French (GSF). Jessica Miller organized the first showing of the current cinéclub in April 2003, and the cinéclub has had regular screenings since then.

Showings are free and open to the public. They are usually held on the first Tuesday of every month at 8pm in G13 FLB, unless otherwise indicated on the schedule (see "Upcoming Showings" below).

The movies are always in French with English subtitles. The goal of the cinéclub is to promote francophone cultures, and a wide variety of films are therefore selected. We strive to show movies from various French-speaking countries, in color or black and white, etc.

GSF usually rents the films either from the UIUC media library, the Urbana Free library, or Rentertainment. However, we also own a few DVDs bought with funds collected through the GSF bakesales and money donated by the Department of French. In addition, several DVDs have been generously offered by faculty members of the Department.

The cinéclub was also very proud to take part in the first French Film Festival held in downtown Champaign in October 2005.
